According to my view one of the theme of this poem can be to forget the past or to escape from the reality because in third part of the poem poet had described escapism while using the words
There was the shade to retreat to, the doors
      To be behind
These are lines which show the escaping from reality because the character boy wanted to avoid the partition which brought tension, frustration, depression and even disappointment towards nature
