The title of the play The Hour of truth is apt and relevant to the story. This 1-act play finishes in one hour. The main character, Mr Baldwin is persuaded by his family members to accept the bribe offered by Mr Gresham.
However throughout the story, Mr. Baldwin remains stick to his decision, not to take bribe as he is honest and a man of principals. During this hour, Baldwin also comes to know how his family, whom he considered “Humble, Loyal and Selfless” is corrupted because of money. He calls them “Shams, Liars, Hypocrites and Thieves”.
In the end, Mr Gresham confesses his crime and Baldwin is offered a better job because of his honesty. Hence he is rewarded. He could have accepted the bribe but he strongly opposes the persuasion of his family members.
Thus the title is well justified.
