This poem shows us how even the strongest castle might fall because of simple errors. It tells us that the reason for the soldiers’ defeat was not their enemy but actually their own laziness and overconfidence. Although the poet insists that they lost because they were betrayed, we understand that the betrayal happened only because they grew too confident and lazy. Therefore, the poem warns us against the dangers of overconfidence, laziness and greed.
