In the poem Father to Son, the father seems to be helpless. He had raised his son giving him proper education and manners. However the son turns out to be different than what he had expected. There is no communication between the two. Both live in the same house like strangers.
Father even desires to forgive his spendthrift son though the latter wasted all his money. The father also does not like the idea of his son leaving the home. In the end, son finally breaks the silence and tells his father that he does not know why he is behaving like this. However the communication gap still remains there.
