    Her young ones are able to recognise only when she comes near to them and they start chirping. The word “barred” – is an adjective for the flowers of the laburnum tree and has been transferred to the bird.

    There is another meanings of this phrase. The goldfinch bird is supposed to be free and flying everywhere. However her identity has been barred and is now behaving like mask on the tree.
