What is the theme of the poem No Men are Foreign?

1 Answer

  1. The theme of the poem No Men are Foreign is universal brotherhood, fraternity, equality and oneness. The very first line of the poem “no men are foreign, no countries strange” depicts that the poet talks about the above mentioned theme.

According to him, we humans are one, we have the same body, same body parts, same emotions, same food, same earth, same air, water and sunlight, same desires (peace), same hate (against wars). Hence we should treat each other like our brothers rather than “others”.

The worst enemy of humans on earth is war. War occurs because of hate and nationalism. We have divided ourselves into borders and consider people from other countries as strangers. This coldness takes away the innocence of the human heart. Hence we should promote fraternity and brotherhood.
