“Dover Beach” is an excellent example of Victorian writing as it shows the mood of the Victorian society and how people felt during that time. The loss of faith in religion and in mankind is portrayed in this poem, which at the time became a fear for the people. This poem is also in the form of a dramatic monologue which is what the Victorian poets usually resorted to write in. The Victorian anxiety of losing faith and the upcoming scientific advancements made people no longer seek comfort in church is expressed through Arnold’ poem.
