Innisfree is a real place in which the poet has spent his childhood. However in the poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree, Innisfree holds a deeper meaning. It symbolises nature, freedom, peace, thrill, solitude and an ideal place which is heaven for the poet.
It is a place where the poet desires to escape in order to achieve freedom and bliss. The poet seems to have been fed up with the city life when he says that he is standing on the grey pavement.
