    Hence the poem is all about the beauty of the tree, particularly during the spring season. In this poem, the poet imagines the tree as a female and refers it using the word “her”. He describes how the tree as beautiful and keeps praying to God by lifting its leafy arms i.e. branches upwards.

    Like mothers, it also provides shelter to the birds and faces hardships (snow). The spring breeze often teases it and kisses it. The rain also intimates with the tree.

    The poem Trees is symbolic and has ample of images. e.g. in the first line, the poet says that he has never seen a poem as lovely as a tree. A poem and a tree are two different things and do not have any relation. However, here the poet brings both of them into a comparison. According to him, poetry is the creativity of the poet while tree is the creativity of God and the letter is far better than the former.

    Next, the poet symbolises earth as a mother which feeds the tree. The surface of earth is symbolised as breast which feeds water to the tree.

    In the third couplet, the poet imagines that the tree is praying to God and calls its branches as leafy arms. In the fourth couplet, the poet describes how the tree provides shelter to birds. Here the branches of the tree are called hair (of a woman).

    Finally the poet calls the tree’s upper part as breast (which are found in humans) and says that life us, the tree also suffers (during the winters) and has feelings (as it intimates with the rain.
