    A metaphor is a literary device or figure of speech in which two things are compared to each other which are literally similar. However it helps to explain an idea. In the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, the poet uses various metaphors. e.g.

    The poet compares the daffodils with stars shining in the galaxy as like the stars, the daffodils were everywhere. Next, he describes his joy in terms of wealth. For him seeing them is his wealth.

    He calls the shores of the lake as line which is also a metaphor. He calls daffodils as bliss of solitude. So these are the important metaphors in the poem I Wondered Lonely As Cloud.

    The protagonist of the story, Klausner, was quite different from the other characters and the public at large in the story. He was an eccentric scientist who had an unhealthy obsession with his experiment. He gave all his time and energy in developing the sound machine. Not once was he seen in the story doing something else that didn’t involve his experiment. Mrs Saunders had always believed that Klausner, her neighbor, to be a rather peculiar person but when he asked her to cut another rose, she became convinced that he had gone completely mad but was harmless. Same with the doctor who applied wound at a tree just to humor Klausner as he didn’t want to face Klausner when he is displeased.

    In the Dramatic Monologue “The Patriot”, Robert Browning uses imagery to show his glory in the beginning and tragic end of his life in the end.

    In the beginning, the patriot says that when he came back from a war after winning, there were “roses, rose…with myrtle”. In addition, there were so many people on the roofs of houses (to welcome him) that “house-roofs seemed to heave and sway” and the flags were waving on the top of Churches. It looked like “church-spires flamed”. All these images show how Patriot was treated by the people when he came victoriously.

    However, after 1 year, he is going to be executed because he tried to do too much for them. Now, nobody praises or supports him. There are “just a palsied few at the window set”. The word “palsied” depicts their cold behaviour towards the Patriot. However most of them have gathered to see him hanging. It is raining and he is bleeding as people are throwing stones at him.

    He describes his execution scene as follows, “Thus I entered, and thus I go!” meaning that he was not giving a moment and stoned to death.
