The poem “Wrinkles” focused on the mother and the sacrifices she made for her children throughout her life. The mother gives up all she possesses for her children. The toll of all these sacrifices is visible on her face in the form of wrinkles. The poet wants to give a message that we should respect the sacrifices made by our mother and should be thankful for all she had done for us.

The poet says that he mustered up all his courage and begin to count the wrinkles on the face of his mother. These wrinkles are not just folds of skin but are the proof of all the pain she had gone through her entire life. The first wrinkle on her face is of the time when her father married her to my father. She left her home and came to a new place and started living with people who are strangers to her.

The second wrinkle on the face of her mother is of the time when I (poet) came into her womb. She nourished me and I grew inside her womb. She carried me in her womb for nine and faced so many problems during this period.

The third wrinkle on her face is of the time when I sucked the milk from her chest. The beauty of her face fades off while taking care of her children but she sacrifices her for their sake.

The fourth wrinkle on the face of my mother is of the time when I got married and she is left alone. This is the harsh reality that children forget the sacrifices made by their mother for them.

The poet says that he wants to seek that young girl his mother used to be under the wrinkles of her face. He wants to see that young girl his mother used to be who was suppressed by his family. He is eager to see the girl, who celebrated the raade festival with joy, who went to river Tawi to immerse the seedlings of raade, who used to play hopscotch and game of pebbles.

The poet says that he will bring everything for her mother like colours of raade, tinsel, colourful pebbles etc. but he wants to se his mother she used to be at her young age when there were no wrinkles on her face even if it is just for one day.
