It is a good idea to break up your writing into smaller chunks. Writing a book takes at least several months of writing every day. And then you will need many more months of editing. Writing a book is a process of continual revision, with the goal of reaching the best possible version of the book at the end of the process. The number of revisions is not limited to the first draft. It continues through the whole process of writing and editing.
This means that even after the manuscript is completed, it will be revised again and again. It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle that is constantly being reassembled but never completed. The first draft of a book is usually about 30,000 words long. That’s the size of a short story, or a chapter in a book. So the first draft of a book can take anywhere from six months to two years to write. Of course, it varies from book to book. But if you can make your first draft a good one, then you have a chance to revise and edit it into something really good.
