The poem television by Roald Dahl is a satire as the poet critiques the invention of the television and the harm it has done to the children. The poet chides the parents by saying how harmful it is for the kids to be intoxicated by the “idiot box.” Kids watch the television excessively and thereby loses the ability to think and imagine. Invention of the television has snatched away the joy of reading as the kids no longer read anything. The poet empathizes with the parents that the TV keeps the children quiet and out of mischief but strongly condemns it. He blames the television which has become a craze in modern times and pleads the parents to throw it away as the kids are intoxicated by the meaningless entertainment.
