There are following main themes in the poem Gift of India
Patriotism
The whole poem is written in the memory of those loved Mother India. India, the country is personified as a mother who is proud of her sons (i.e. soldiers) who were fighting on the foreign lands for the sake of their country. At the same time, mother earth is weeping as she could not bear the separation of her sons.
The poet believes that the places where those brave soldiers died have flowers blooming on them and also precious pearls. After their martyrdom, they are fragrant and thus make Indian proud.
