In “The Colonel”, the poet addresses topics of war and culpability. The poet describes “the colonel’s” household. The majority of the deaths and destruction that have occurred in El Salvador throughout the Civil War are attributed to this heinously violent man. The poem is a description of how strong and horrific his influence over the population is.
