The poem The Gift of India was written in 1915, the time when World War-1 was going on. At that time, a large number of Indian soldiers were sent to the foreign lands to fight against the enemies.
Mother India who cannot bear the separation of her sons has the hope that they will return back one day. This hope comforts her when the soldiers are in the foreign lands.
