What is the central idea of the poem The Earthen Goblet?

1 Answer

  1. The main idea of this poem is the sorrow an earthen goblet feels at being cast into its present form. It felt much freer when it was just a lump of clay and could feel the friendship of a little flower who had grown in it. This may also serve as a metaphor for how people are forced to change themselves and their way of life to keep up with the times.
