What does jayanto tell Shankar about friendship with Fritz?

1 Answer

  1. Jayanto told the narrator, Shankar, about his doll, Fritz and how the doll had become an integral part of his childhood. Jayanto’s uncle had gifted him a twelve-inch-long figure of an old man, dressed in traditional Swiss style. The doll was called Fritz and it looked so life-like that it was hard to believe Fritz was just a doll. Jayanto had a lot of toys growing up but once Fritz came into his life, he forgot everything. Despite having other toys, Jayanto spent all his childhood playing with Fritz. A time came when he used to spend hours just talking to him and though the conversations were one sided, he felt as if Fritz understood him. His parents had warned him not to overdo things but he never cared. He and Fritz had been inseparable until that unfortunate mishap happened where some dogs tore Fritz apart. The damaged condition of the doll marked the end of Jayanto’s friendship with Fritz and he gave him a proper burial under the deodar tree.
