From the poem Amanda, we learn that a child is innocent and very sensitive and very creative as well. The mother of Amanda keeps scolding and abusing her every day which makes her (Amanda) escape into imaginations. She imagines different things like being a mermaid (a fictional animal with head of a girl and body of a fish), an orphan (whose parents are dead) and Rapunzel.
Every parent should always love his/her children and advise them with love and care. The children should never be insulted. The harsh words have adverse effect on the upbringing of children. In the poem, Amanda, becomes moody and angry because of daily taunts.
