Grown-ups interfering in the life of children in order to teach them good manners. They set rules for do’s and dont’s and they keep preaching these rules to the young ones every time which irritates the children. In the poem, the child narrates a similar story in which he is instructed every time. Hence he expresses his irritation.
The theme of this poem is that grown-ups should not interfere too much in the life of children. It can have a negative impact on their psychology. Because of this they started hating the elders.
