What are the poetic devices used in the poem Wrinkles?

1 Answer

    1. Metaphor– A metaphor directly refers to one thing by mentioning another. Here, “the time/ When your father/ Uprooted you/ From the backyard/ Of his house/ To plant you/ In the courtyard of others” is a metaphor for his mother’s marriage, and “When a girl/ Took me away/ From you” is a metaphor for the poet’s own marriage. His mother’s “wrinkles” are also an extended metaphor for her sacrifices.

    2. Enjambment– It is the continuation of a sentence to multiple lines. The sentences in this poem span multiple lines and are therefore of this nature.
