The teacher said, “Congratulations, Ajay! You topped the class.” Change into Indirect Speech

1 Answer

  1. Indirect Speech: The teacher congratulated Ajay and said that he had topped the class.

Explanation: While reporting imperative sentences we use reporting verbs like ask, request, beg, order, advise, wish etc to match the mood of the sentence.

And when the reporting verb is in the past (said) and the direct speech is in the past indefinite tense, then the indirect (reported) speech will change into the past perfect tense.

Past Indefinite Tense > Past Perfect Tense.
