The poem Gift of India is a lament for Mother India because the latter weeps whenever she thinks of her brave sons. They are buried in foreign lands and thus Mother India cannot bear their separation.
On the other hand, Mother India feels proud because her brave sons never feared death and instead fought courageously till their last breath. This is why this poem is both lament and pride for Mother India.
