In Tempest, Prospero is a man of magic and spiritual arts. He commands spirit of Ariel and uses him to realize his plan of revenge on King Alonso and his cohorts.
Several scenes like the destruction of ship, the appearance of a table decorated with food and supplies, the wedding masque etc highlight the theme of supernatural powers at work. It manipulation of circumstances and consequent events bring a level of magical and mysterious tone to the text.
The music used by Ariel to entice Ferdinand and intimidate Caliban adds to the sense of eeriness and mystique to the play.
