What is the central idea of the poem Asleep in the valley?

1 Answer

  1. The central idea of this poem is the violence of war and all the lives it takes. The poet introduces us to a very peaceful and vividly beautiful scene where a young soldier lies asleep in a valley, only to reveal that he is actually dead. This shocks us and makes us realise the violence and bloodshed of war, and all the young lives lost to it. This is an anti-war poem.
