    • Apostrophe: Phrases such as “Heard you that shriek?” and “Saw you those hands so sadly clasped” directly address the readers with the usage of the word “you”, making them examples of Apostrophe thus. 


    • Synecdoche: The phrase “cruel hands” refers to not just that body part but the humans who were cruel– referring to the White Settlers thus. 


    • Syncope: Words have been shortened to maintain the rhythm of the poem. A few examples would be “burden’d”, “seem’d”, and “o’er”.
