The Native Americans value their ancestors and the land, where as the white men tries to expand their territory by capturing the lands of the natives. The speech is a response to the Big Chief’s proposal for the natives to give up their land. For the natives, however, the land is not just a piece of earth but it’s a symbol of their ancestors and culture and traditions. They too have the rights which are being exploited by the use of power. The poem serves as a critique to the colonial mentality of the white men and how the Native Americans stand strong at the resolution for their own land.
