The six people in the story denotes different discriminatory attitudes prevalent in the society. The first white woman had racial prejudice against the black man and vice versa. The poor man and the rich man had class prejudice against each other. The last man wanted himself to survive, not caring about others and the second man had different notions for people following different religion.
