Symbolism is an important feature of the short story a horse and two goats. Even the misunderstandings between Muni and the American are symbolic of the two cultures. Though Muni is poor, he understands the value of his culture and traditions and even views the horse statue as an important symbol. He explains to the American that the horse statue carries great significance to the villages as they believe that the redeemer will come save them, when the world perishes, in the form of a horse. This horse statue is basically the Kalki statue which is the final avatar of the Hindu god. Even the highway, in the story, next to each Muni graces his goats is an important symbol. It stands as a foil to the symbol of the Kalki statue.
