The little match girl is cold and hungry. She is barefooted as she lost her slippers and is alone in the streets, trying to sell matchsticks. She wishes to be back home but in order to escape her abusive father, she needs to sell the matchsticks. The little girl misses her late grandmother whom she loved the most and eventually succumbs in the freezing cold to a journey to meet her grandmother in the afterlife.
