Bholi was attacked by smallpox when she was two years old. She recovered from the disease but the scars were left on her face. Moreover she once fell off from the bed and hurt a part of her brain. She started stammering.
Other children used to make him of her. Hence she stopped talking and also lost her confidence. However when she went to the school, her teacher did not laugh at her. She was compassionate and understanding. She encouraged Bholi to speak and started giving her special attention.
This way, Bholi got education and also got confidence. However nobody knew that. But when Bishamber demanded dowry, she could not take that any more and boldly refused to marry him. Her confidence amazed others who considered her a dumb cow.
