It is often played as a casual outdoor activity and offered as an intramural sport in schools, colleges and universities. The sport is played on a rectangular open-air court.

The shuttlecock is usually made of feathered material, with matches generally played indoors.  The object of the game is to hit a shuttlecock by using your racquet so that it passes over the net, and lands in your opponents half of the court. Points are scored when the shuttlecock is struck above a high net line and above a horizontal line level to the bottom of the net.
