    Muni is, “very poor and very old farmer”, the protagonist of the story. He is established in the story with his wife and his goats. He was once a prosperous man but then after a series of misfortune, he had hit rock bottom. He belongs to the fictional village of Kritam. He traveled to the horse statue and sat on the pedestal, to graze his goats and reminisces on the past. One day, he meets with the American businessman and engages in a conversation which leads to a misunderstanding. He believes that the American was trying to buy his goats whereas the American main intention was to buy the statue. Muni saw the world through an emotional lens and hence, knows the value of his culture and tradition. His love for his village can be seen through the story he tells about the horse statue and his significance to the villagers. Despite being poor, he is not materialistic like the American but lives on limitless time and memories.
