Father is unable to understand his son in because he is quite different from what he expected him to be. There is no proper communication between the two. Both live in the same house like strangers. Son is spendthrift and wastes all the money of his father yet the latter desires to forgive him.
In the end, both try to end their strangeness yet they cannot and the communication gap remains intact between the two.
