In the poem “I Dream a World”, Langston Hughes says that “joy, like a pearl, attends the needs of all mankind”. Here he is comparing joy with pearl. He makes this comparison because pearl is a precious stone which is found in deep oceans.
It is very rare and hence costly. Similarly, the joy, according to the poet is very rare and it is not accessible to all humans. Hence he desires that as pearl brings happiness to its owner, the joy may also reach all the humans of the world so that they may be able to live a happy and prosperous life.
