Assunta played the role of Salvatore’s wife in the story. Assunta portrayed the true character of a woman. She didn’t dismiss Salvatore because he had rheumatism and would never be able to get quite well. She loved him for who he was and not whether he would be able to work as a man or not. She loved that Salvatore was tender and caring towards her despite being masculine.
