The highlighting themes that emerge in the poem are redemption, Pagan values, Christianity and heroism. The poem narrates the tale of Jesus’ crucifixion from the perspective of the Cross. The personification of the Cross provides it the agency to describe the events that occurred when Jesus was crucified. Although the Cross also suffered pain as it too was nailed when Jesus was nailed, it expresses pride and joy as it got to be a part of such a divine event. As Jesus became the hero for all humankind, the Cross too became special and attained salvation through sacrifice.
