The central idea of the poem is the significance of staying calm and keeping one’s composure while being tested. The poet advises the readers to have the discipline to never lose their cool while they are surrounded by “strife”, i.e. anger, hatred or betrayal. The best weapon to use in such a battle is the weapon of silence. The poet recommends the reader to maintain their mental balance and react accordingly. He says that acting in anger or resentment can lead to worse outcomes. The ability to stay calm and composed during a fight or betrayal is the most vital lesson and ability in life according to the poet.
