The poem, through the description and images of the bird hunting season in the area, talks about how the roles of the genders are fixed in a society. The men are masculine, protectors and hunters. While the women are feminine, docile and domesticated. The poem also shows how these roles are forced on at a young age. As soon as someone is born, they are expected to behave in a certain way. Young boys take on the role of their father and the girls become like the countless women in the society.
