The narrator and Jayanto had gone for a stroll in the garden after tea. Suddenly Jayanto stopped walking and said,” Deodar.” He then went to look for a deodar tree which he believed to be somewhere around. Puzzled, the narrator followed him and saw him standing beside a deodar tree, looking excited. The narrator asked him why he thought of the deodar tree, to which Jayanto replied that he couldn’t recall. He only remembered that he had something to do with the tree but what it was he didn’t know. Later that night he recalled the whole business about his doll, Fritz and how he had buried his doll beneath the the deodar tree when it got damaged.
