    1. Symbolism: In the first stanza,  the “beetle” and “death-moth” act as symbols of death and decay. 
    2. Simile: The lines “But when the melancholy fit shall fall/Sudden from heaven like a weeping cloud” bring out a simile where he compares the arrival of a melancholic mood to a “weeping” cloud with the word “like”.
    3. Personification: In the last stanza, “Melancholy” is personified as a woman, as can be understood by the usage of the word “she”.
