      Following poetic devices have been used in the poem Dad and the Cat and the Tree:

      1. Alliteration: It the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. e.g. “was wobbly”, “tree was tall”, “his hair and his face”, “On a branch. It broke”, “He gave a great leap”, “tree-trunk”, “Pleased as Punch”, “So it’s smiling and smirking”.
      2. Personification: It is the attribution of human characteristics to animals and on-living things. e.g. “it’s smiling and smirking” is used for the cat.
      3. Repetition: It is the repetition of certain phrases for poetic effect. e.g. “fall?” is repeated several times in the poem.
