Amongst the theme of friendship, control and trust one of the most important themes of Chief Seattle Speech is the people’s relationship with their land. The Native Americans value their ancestors and the land, where as the white men tries to expand their territory by capturing the lands of the natives. The speech is a response to the Big Chief’s proposal for the natives to give up their land. They too have the rights which are being exploited by the use of power. The poem serves as a critique to the colonial mentality of the white men and how the Native Americans stand strong at the resolution for their own land.
