Following poetic devices have been used in the poem The Wonderful Words:

Metaphor: It is a poetic device which is used to make a comparison between two things that aren’t alike but do have something in common. e.g. “English is a wonderful game.” (here English language is referred to as game as it is fun to learn English words), “from its prison” (here prison refers to the mind). Personification: It is the attribution of human characteristics to non-human things and animals. e.g. “Words are the food and dress of thought They give it its body and swing”. Here words are given human characteristics.

Alliteration: It is the use of the same sound at the beginning of words that are close together. e.g. “want of a way”, “that they”, “come out clear”, “May be your mind.”
