Yes Salvatore is indeed presented in the story as a static character. His character doesn’t undergo any changes throughout the course of the story. When he is away from home, instead of trying to adapt to a new land, he is incredibly homesick. He never once says an unpleasant word to anyone, not even to the girl who broke his heart. He endures everything with a smile, even during the time when the pain is racking through his limbs.
