At first, Salvatore was heartbroken with the news that the girl he had loved would not be able to marry him. He had wept on his mother’s bosom. Though he was terribly unhappy, he never for once blamed the girl. After a few months, Salvatore had settled down to the common round, working in his father’s vineyard and fishing and heard the news that there was a young woman in the village willing to marry him.
