Indirect Speech: He exclaimed with disappointment that he had made a great mistake.
Explanation: When the reporting verb is in the past (said) and the direct speech is in the present perfect tense, then the indirect (reported) speech will change into the past perfect tense.
Present Perfect Tense (have made) > Past Perfect Tense (had made)
And if the sentence is exclamatory, we use the reporting verbs like exclaimed, admired, cried etc based on the sentence.
